This Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) side event — co-hosted by the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and supported by the European Union — will explore innovative tools, processes, and collaborative strategies to enhance Member States’ preparedness and resilience in this changing environment.
The global drug landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace, with patterns of drug use and drug markets becoming ever more dynamic and complex.
The rising availability of highly potent and toxic substances, and the escalating threat posed by drug-related violence, call for new strategies and tools.
As criminal networks infiltrate our society and economy, our cities and communities face escalating aggression, intimidation and the recruitment of vulnerable people into crime. Addressing these challenges requires targeted prevention mechanisms and cross-sectoral cooperation.
Discussions will focus on:
- Strengthening governance
- Countering organised crime
- Mitigating the societal harms of drugs
By fostering partnerships and sharing best practices, this event seeks to empower Member States to respond effectively to emerging drug-related challenges and build safer, more resilient communities in the future. There is the need for Member States to prepare themselves with innovative approaches that will ensure we remain ahead of these ever-changing threats.
This event will bring together experts, policymakers and stakeholders from various countries to discuss proactive policies and measures to anticipate and address the future of drug trafficking.
