Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
UNAIDS–EMCDDA cooperation
UNAIDS and the EMCDDA regularly share information in the area of HIV/AIDS. Experts from both agencies attend expert meetings and collaborate in projects to ensure that European data collection regarding people who inject drugs (PWID) and the global monitoring processes are in line. UNAIDS has been involved in developing the EMCDDA’s indicators on drug-related infectious diseases and is a member of the advisory group of the drug-related infectious diseases indicator (DRID)..
The EMCDDA further collaborates with UNAIDS through European projects and expert meetings coordinated by European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) (for example, the monitoring of the implementation of the Dublin Declaration on Partnership to fight HIV/AIDS in Europe and Central Asia) and the European Commission (for example, the EU HIV/AIDS Think Tank) as well as in the organisation of conferences and meetings. Recently, the EMCDDA contributed to the UNAIDS expert consultation entitled: Changing the Game – How can Europe move towards zero new HIV infections, zero AIDS-related deaths and zero discrimination.
