ECDC/WHO Joint Meeting HIV in Europe and Central Asia in the era of the SDGs: Operationalising goals and achieving targets

On 23–25 April 2018, representatives from all 53 countries of the Region, partners and stakeholders are meeting in Berlin, Germany, to review the situation in countries and identify next steps.

Participants include national technical HIV surveillance experts, HIV programme managers, representatives from Member States of the WHO European Region and the EU/EEA, as well as representatives from WHO, United Nations agencies, cosponsors, civil society organizations, the European Commission, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, WHO collaborating centres, the European AIDS Clinical Society, the International AIDS Society, academia and people living with HIV.

Meeting objectives

The objectives of the meeting are as follows:

  • to review the status of achieving European Region and national-level HIV goals and targets to end HIV as a public health threat by 2030, including progress in the implementation of the Action Plan for the Health Sector Response to HIV in the WHO European Region;
  • to assess how to improve availability and use of strategic information to guide the HIV response in Europe and central Asia;
  • to provide a platform for countries to share experiences on successful interventions within HIV prevention and control.
