Statistical Bulletin 2021 — drug-related infectious diseases
Archived content
The EMCDDA collects data on the prevalence and incidence of infectious diseases — primarily HIV, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) — among people who inject drugs (PWID). Data on the proportion of PWID who have an infection at a given time (prevalence) are derived from seroprevalence studies or from results of routine infectious diseases screening conducted in drug services. Prevalence data provide useful information on the burden of infectious diseases among PWID, risk factors and corresponding treatment needs. Data on the occurrence and notifications of new cases of drug-related infectious diseases (incidence) are reported to ECDC and are also available in the data tables below. Incidence data provide useful information on the level of transmission among PWID, outbreaks and corresponding needs in terms of prevention and control. Methods and definitions for the data on this page can be found on the Drug-related infectious diseases methods and definitions page.
