Statistical Bulletin 2026 — problem drug use
‘Problem drug use’ or ‘high-risk drug use’ is defined as recurrent drug use that is causing actual harms to the person (including dependence, but also other health, psychological or social problems) or is placing the person at a high risk of suffering such harms. The primary objective of this indicator is to estimate the prevalence of people with the more severe forms of drug use at the national level, accounting for significant drug-related burden of diseases. The case definitions for injecting drug use, high-risk opioid use, high-risk stimulant use and high-risk use of opioids, cocaine and/or amphetamines (high-risk drug use) are detailed in the Problem drug use methods and definitions page.
