Introduction
The trainee will be allocated within the Policy and society sector within the Policy, crime and markets unit, and the selected candidate will be reporting to the Head of the Policy and society sector.
The successful applicant will be requested to perform the following main tasks and responsibilities:
- Support the Policy and Society (POL) sector with the implementation of the sector’s work programme.
- Support activities related to the EUDA portfolio of resources and tools to support drug policy design and evaluation.
- Support activities related to the development of the European cannabis policy toolkit.
- Support the activities related to the analysis of prison data, collected through the European questionnaire on Drug use in Prison (EQDP).
- Support the activities related to the development of a prison sentinel system for detecting changing drug trends in prison settings.
- Support the activities related to the analysis of prison and other criminal justice policies.
- Support the POL sector with expert meetings, literature reviews, and outputs, including online content and scientific articles.

Eligibility requirements:
- Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union, Norway or Türkiye. Candidates from other countries may apply.
- Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service.
- Be physically fit to perform the duties of the post.
- Have completed the first cycle of a higher education course (university education) and obtained a full degree or its equivalent by the closing date for applications.
- Have a thorough knowledge of oral and written English.
General selection requirements:
- A completed university degree in criminology, law, sociology, public health, political sciences, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of methodological and research issues, particularly in social and policy research contexts.
- Experience in data management and quantitative data analysis techniques.
- Good knowledge of drug laws and broader drug policies.
- Good knowledge of prison-related topics and broader criminal justice policies, especially in relation to drug use.
