Today, the EUDA met online with partners from the Western Balkans, European Neighbourhood Policy countries (1), Chile and Peru to exchange knowledge on early-warning systems (EWS) and responses to new psychoactive substances (NPS).
The meeting focused on sharing experiences, building capacity and supporting the development of national EWS. Participants shared updates on the NPS situation in their countries, highlighting emerging substances, reporting challenges and presenting national responses to address them. The EUDA also showcased its latest tools and services supporting early-warning activities in third countries.
A dedicated session addressed the process of establishing national alert systems, drawing on practical examples and outlining key steps, challenges and recommendations.
Discussions further underlined the crucial role of laboratory networks and toxicology services in identifying and assessing new substances as well as the need for coordinated approaches between monitoring, health and law enforcement sectors.
EWS play a vital role in enhancing preparedness and supporting timely responses to emerging drug-related threats at both national and international levels.
The meeting formed part of the EUDA’s ongoing efforts to promote partnerships in the drugs field, in line with its mandate and new International Cooperation Framework.
