Experts from across the EU Justice and Home Affairs Agencies’ Network (JHAAN) are meeting today for a thematic event examining how artificial intelligence (AI) can support innovation, preparedness and digital transformation across EU agencies.
Organised under the European Union Drugs Agency’s (EUDA) presidency of the JHAAN network, the hybrid meeting — AI in Action: JHAAN Journey from Strategy to Solutions — brings together specialists from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including IT, legal affairs, data protection, research, innovation and administration.
The event focuses on accelerating the practical adoption of AI across the JHAAN agencies by showcasing concrete tools, projects and experiences already being developed within the EU institutional environment. Participants will explore the EUDA’s Nous AI project — an internal initiative supporting knowledge access, information retrieval and smarter working methods — alongside innovative projects presented by other EU agencies. Together, these examples illustrate different approaches to AI implementation, governance and organisational change.
By facilitating hands-on exploration of practical solutions, the meeting offers participants direct experience with emerging AI technologies and applications. It also aims to raise awareness of the transformative potential of AI and encourage agencies to explore new possibilities for digital innovation within their own areas of work.
Throughout the day, speakers will share practical use cases and lessons learned in areas such as data governance, risk and ethics, engineering, change management and strategic planning. Dedicated sessions will examine how agencies can move from AI strategies to operational solutions while ensuring responsible, transparent and effective deployment.
The programme also includes interactive workshops, networking sessions and a strategic foresight exercise exploring AI maturity and future planning across EU agencies. These exchanges are designed to strengthen cross-agency cooperation by providing a platform for sharing best practices, building professional connections and identifying opportunities for future joint initiatives.
By fostering an environment of knowledge-sharing and partnership, the meeting aims to lay the groundwork for continued collaboration and collective progress in the digital transformation of public services across the EU Justice and Home Affairs community.
This meeting follows a meeting at the EUDA on 1 June of the AI Cluster of the EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security, a collaborative platform dedicated to enhancing innovation in the field of internal security. Hosted at Europol, the hub brings together innovation labs from EU agencies, Member States, the European Commission (DG HOME and the JRC), and other relevant entities.
