Portuguese Minister of Health visits EUDA to discuss emerging drug-related challenges and European cooperation

The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) welcomed the Portuguese Minister of Health, Dra Ana Paula Martins, together with ICAD President Dra Joana Teixeira, to its premises today for discussions on evolving drug-related challenges in Europe and cooperation between Portugal and the EUDA.

The meeting, hosted by EUDA Executive Director Dr Lorraine Nolan, provided an opportunity to exchange views on current developments in the drug situation and on issues of relevance for both Portugal and the wider European context.

Experts from the EUDA presented the latest analysis of the drug situation in Europe, including developments relevant to Portugal. Discussions covered a number of key topics, including emerging new psychoactive substances, healthcare responses for people who use drugs in custodial settings, and the potential of AI to support early warning, detection and analysis.

The visit reflects the ongoing cooperation between the EUDA and the Portuguese authorities in addressing Europe’s evolving drug-related challenges.
